This is a fine quality English George III figured mahogany chest on chest, of small proportions, circa 1780, in good original condition. There is a stunning grain configuration and colour to the figured mahogany on the drawer fronts and sides of the chest. Constructed during the mid part of the George III period, it features a protruding moulded cornice above a two-over-three drawer design. The chest consists of two halves. The drawers feature the original brass swan neck handles and brass escutcheons, with the original working lever locks and keys. Furthermore, the drawers are pine lined and hand dovetailed, finished with quality cock beading. The top section of the chest boasts elegant chamfered corners, decorated with fine satinwood string inlay, interspersed with ebony sections. The top chest is smaller than the base chest, which consists of three drawers. The whole piece is also designed with smaller proportions, so it is likely to fit in more rooms. The sides of the chests are also constructed from mahogany. The chest also features its original pine backboards and whole of the chest stands on its original ogee bracket feet. The top and bottom are completely original.

Condition Report:
The chest is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and inside of drawers but nothing significant considering the age of the item. All eight drawers feature the original brass swan neck handles, escutcheons and close flush to the frame. The drawers retain their original working lever locks and there is a working key. The chest also stands on its original ogee bracket feet and retains its original backboards. This chest boasts its original polish, which ensures a fantastic colour to the figured mahogany.
