Victorian Pollard Oak Sideboard

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: witchantiques.com

A fine quality sideboard/dresser from the Victorian period. Pollard oak has been veneered on to solid mahogany, a combination that was very expensive to manufacture even in it''s day. Obviously only one in a thousand sideboards would be made to this standard and the quality would extend through to the very crisp carved detail and decorative oxidised brass handles. The drawer/cupboard formation to the base is standard, but the fall front above the two drawers is most likely a special request from the original purchaser and possibly for storing personal items. The upper section has three bevelled mirrors and an attractive serpentine shaped base to the turned and fluted side supports. The decorative cornice is topped with a swan necked pediment. With only light under the polish abrasions to the top surface, which are only noticeable at certain angles, the condition of the whole piece is both original and really fantastic, ready to display, use and enjoy.
