Description

A superb quality burr walnut and inlaid Victorian period side cabinet attributed to Gillows. Of bombe form with serpentine ends. The shaped and ebonised moulded top having fine burr walnut veneers with inset tulipwood crossbanding between boxwood line inlay. The cushion moulded frieze with ormolu mounts and further tulipwood banding, the stiles with fine ormolu female espagnolettes. The centre having 2 shaped and glazed doors which open to a velvet lined interior with tulipwood cross banded shelf. The open ends with conforming velvet lining and 2 serpentine shaped shelves. The whole stands on a shaped plinth base with further tulipwood banding. Condition - Very good, re-lined in a good quality ivory coloured velvet, with working lock and keys. Although not stamped we have had this model credenza previously with the same mounts which was stamped Gillows.
