Portrait Of A Lady, Dated 1739, Richard Philips (1681–1741)

Large oil on canvas half length portrait of a lady portrayed wearing a pink satin dress with an elegant flowing blue wrap, a lamb with a flower garland nearby. The portrait is signed and dated ‘R. J. Philips pinxit 1739’. A charming subject and a good example of British 18th century art. Held in an antique frame.
 
Richard Philips was a British portrait painter who was born (and died) in London. Some of his work is held in London’s National Portrait Gallery, the Bank of England, Cromwell Museum, and Guildhall Museum Rochester to name a few. His son, Charles Phillips (1708-1748) was also a painter.
