Description

Circa 1800, late George III mahogany chest of drawers from the Cumbrian area. The wonderful selected top with its stylish grain and unusual solid moulded edge with a beading beneath. There is a small apron with a shell and oval inlay in the centre. Beneath this there is a configuration of 2 short over 3 further long graduating drawers, with their original oval brass handles and locks. The handles have been gilded but the gilding is slightly worn. There are canted corners on each side which are fluted, running from top to bottom. At the end of these there is a raised rectangular block with a beaded fore edge. Beneath the bottom drawer there are various simple mouldings and the chest stands on 4 squat bracket feet. The chest has great colour and patination.
