An endearing portrait of this young sitter with an insightful characterisation. The work is from the circle of Johann Kerseboom who came to work in England from the Rhineland in the 1680s, with his uncle who was also a painter. He had a successful practice in London as a painter of portraits. His greatest notoriety was in c.1694-1705 when he painted a series of Admirals, including a Portrait of John Lord Berkeley.
