Fine George II Walnut and Elm Chest on Stand. C. 1750

18th century
Description

FINE George II veneered walnut and elm chest on stand, formerly from HADDOW HOUSE in Aberdeenshire, the home of Lord Aberdeen.

This beautiful small size chest on stand is of outstanding original colour and patination. The top section with two over three drawer configuration. The drawers with moulded edge and a boxwood line with cross-banding and the beautiful original brass fretted handles. The cross grain top cornice mould is a very nice shape with pine top.

The ORIGINAL stand has one drawer of the same construction as the top section and square cabriole legs. The cabriole legs have been re-done in Georgian times as the original elm ones would have either rotted or been very badly worm damaged but you have to look very hard to see the joint.

The sides of both the top and bottom sections are solid elm and are a lovely rich dark colour and patination.

The drawers are all pine lined.

The colour of this piece is outstanding, as good as you'll get on early walnut. Apart from the old repaired legs to the stand everything else is original and un-touched.

SIZES; The base section is 38" wide, the top section is 36" wide. 20" deep. 61 1/2" high overall

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
