Yolanda Gray Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The raised back and shelf are supported by elegant scroll “S” shaped supports that sit on a lovely figured mahogany moulded top. Below, there is a single cushion fronted drawer, which still retains the original blue sugar paper. Sugar paper, imported from the colonies, was used to line furniture during the Regency and William IV period for hygienic reasons. Placing your fingers below the centre of the drawer will open the drawer. This chiffonier would have most likely been used in a dining room to store the families’ best crockery and cutlery. Below the drawer sit two stunning flame mahogany doors, both featuring inset Arcadian panels. The right hand door retains its original working lock, with a key. Inside, there is a fixed shelf. The doors are flanked by pretty demi-lune tapering ring turned columns. The chiffonier stands on a lovely protruding breakfront-moulded plinth with the back of the chiffonier retaining its original pine backboards.

It goes without saying that this chiffonier boasts absolutely stunning flame mahogany veneers; it is an example of the best quality flame mahogany timer available in its day. It is becoming extremely rare to find such quality of materials and craftsmanship in antique furniture as this piece. This chiffonier would have been commissioned for a wealthy individual or family.

Condition Report:
This chiffonier is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no stains or watermarks to the top. The drawer retains its original blue rice paper. The drawer and doors close flush to the frame; they are not warped and there are no splits to the door panels. The right door retains its original working lock (with a working key). The carcass is solid in joint with no lose movements and there is no missing veneer. As the chiffonier boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic mellow colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This item is solid in joint and ready to be used.
