Here is a very good quality antique oak dresser base, circa 1780 - 1800 (George III period) originating from South Shropshire (the border area between Shropshire & Hereford), England; in good clean condition with excellent proportions. The dresser boasts great craftsmanship, colour and patination and measures just under 6ft wide. The dresser retains its original up stand.
The medullary rays are also prominent on the front of the dresser. The dresser base consists of three working cock-beaded drawers with old replacement brass escutcheons and oval handles, which are in keeping with the period. The central drawer houses a working lock (with key) and the two flanking drawers feature sham locks. The drawers are pine lined and hand-dovetailed. Below, is an elegantly shaped frieze. Four refined straight legs support the base and the back of the dresser retains its original pine backboards. To one side of the dresser is inscribed “W. Day” which most likely have been the owner who commissioned the item for their house when it was first constructed. The dresser features a superb mellow golden oak colour.

Dimensions:
External Height = 92.3cm or 36” or 3ft 0”
Base Height = 80.8cm or 31¾” or 2ft 7¾”

Condition Report:
This dresser is in excellent condition. There are no cup marks, burns or watermarks to the top of the dresser. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The brassware on the dresser are old replacements, which are in keeping with the period. The central drawer has a working lock and key; the two outer drawers feature sham locks. The carcass is solid with no breaks; splits or lose movements. As the dresser boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic mellow colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
