Carse Antiques has dated this piece to the 1750s.
It is unique to this particular part of Scotland and in fact much of it was actually made in Perth by George Sandeman who was a cabinet maker who begun working in 1756 making furniture of both broom and Laburnum, there are a number of his pieces in Blair Castle.
This particular piece is very much mid 18th century in both style and manufacture, probably dating to around 1770. The typical 2 over 3 drawer configuration with scratch cock beads to the edges. The actual drawer manufacture is very typical of George Sandeman with the drawer bottom being nailed to the sides and back with the edges showing all round and then the drawer runners applied. The drawers are all satin birch lined with the bottoms running from front to back. The drawers have their original steel locks but have correct replacement brass handles.
The feet are all original including all the underneath blocks etc. The chest is a very neat size and is a gorgeous original colour and patination.
