M Lees and Sons has dated this piece to the 1800s.
Wonderful rich original patina and colour with no splits or cracks to the top .The top is cut from a single piece of figured mahogany. The drawer and cupboard fronts are cross-banded with satinwood ,together with stringing to the uprights/stiles ,and fitted with brass ring-handles which appear to be totally original . The right-hand end fitted with a narrow cupboard door with handle, opening to reveal the aperture designed to house the chamber-pot or 'borde-lieu', which enabled the diners not having to leave the banquet-hall/dining-room to relieve themselves. An impressive and functional piece of period furniture of exceptional scale and condition.
