Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1870s.
The piece has a rectangular moulded top over five working mahogany lined drawers and a single double fronted secretaire drawer. The interior of the secretaire contains an early leather writing insert, two small birds eye maple fronted drawers along with three small pigeon holes. All the drawers display Victorian Arts & Crafts style brass handles and are flanked by two attractively carved corbels while the piece as a whole stands on a plain plinth and has later backboards. The oak is a medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
