Characterful Antique Victorian Oak Wellington Chest with Secretaire Drawer

This antique oak wellington chest dates from around 1870, is full of character from age and use and unusually also contains a secretaire drawer. The piece has a rectangular moulded top over five working mahogany lined drawers and a single double fronted secretaire drawer. The interior of the secretaire contains an early leather writing insert, two small birds eye maple fronted drawers along with three small pigeon holes. All the drawers display Victorian Arts & Crafts style brass handles and are flanked by two attractively carved corbels while the piece as a whole stands on a plain plinth and has later backboards. The oak is a medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
