Four Charming Old Decorative Prints C1800

Description

"GIRL and PIGS", "A BOY ANGLING", "A GIRL GATHERING MUSHROOMS" and "THE LITTLE DOMESTIC" are a series of four fine stipple engravings published around 1800 by J & J Boydell, each in a good old frame with label for "Frank T. Sabin New Bond Street" on the reverse.

Each picture measures around 14"x 17" including frame.

Georgian prints from this period typically utilized copperplate engraving, etching, or mezzotint techniques to transfer fine line work onto rag paper. Artisans then applied watercolour washes by hand to add tone and warmth, often depicting pastoral pastimes, country sports, or genre scenes popular in late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century Britain.

Prints of this era were executed on handmade cotton or linen rag paper using oil-based printing inks. Tone and colour were added using natural pigment watercolours applied with fine hair brushes.
