Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1750s.
This superb example of Georgian craftsmanship dates from around 1780.
All the drawers are oak lined, display cock beading and have the original brass swan neck handles. The front of the piece is beautifully figured and stands on very unusual shaped bracket feet with raised fielded decoration, an intricate piece of workmanship only ever achieved by a true craftsman of the period. The chest has relatively small proportions making it a desirable size for the modern home and benefits from the ability to split into two sections aiding transportation. It has aged to a lovely warm medium shade of mahogany with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
