The rectangular top to this beautiful antique chest is elaborately inlaid with an oval ebony marquetry centre panel, depicting birds and butterflies with flowers and foliage, with corner panels of a similar design. Framed with feather and deep cross-banding.
Below are two short over three long drawers.
Each drawer is framed with feather-banding, with convex mouldings applied to each drawer divide.
With highly ornate brass escutcheons and pear shape drop-handles. All locks are present, no key. Pine lining to the drawers.
Bees-waxed and polished.
Standing on bracket shaped feet. Would of originally had bun feet, as there are marks underneath the chest of where they once stood.
Overall an amazingly striking chest of drawers, with a wonderful rich, warm colour and patina.
Solid, sturdy and strong.
The overall condition is very good, with general signs of use consistent with age, some very minor historical filled shrinkage to the top and one side, visible in the pictures, very typical. Minor marks to the top, the marquetry is in excellent stable condition.
