Here is an example of a superb quality antique George III Staffordshire oak three-drawer country dresser base, circa 1780 - 1820. This dresser from originated from a remote area of the Staffordshire moorlands in the UK. The top of this dresser is constructed from four oak plank tops and is finished with moulded edging. The top has a detachable arched pediment, which is secured by several vertical dowels. The dresser base consists of three working cock-beaded drawers, which feature the original oak turned knobs. The moulded edge design is repeated on the frieze. The dresser features the original working locks and key to the central drawer. The two outer drawers features the original sham locks. The dresser frame is constructed using the traditional pegged construction method. The drawers have been constructed in the traditional hand dovetailed manner and are pine lined. The dresser features the original backboards. The whole of the dresser sits on very elegant tapered legs terminating in spade feet. This is a wonderful country dresser, which is completely original.

Condition Report:

The item is in excellent original condition and is commensurate with its age. The dresser has a fantastic colour and figuration to the timer. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The central drawer features the original work lock and a key. The two outer drawers feature the original sham locks (they were designed for show and were not designed to work). The drawers boast their original oak turned knobs. There are no splits to the top or sides of this dresser which rare to see. Free of active woodworm, solid in joint and ready to use.

Pediment Height = 12.5cm or 5”

Width = 173cm or 5ft 8”

Depth = 50cm or 1ft 7”
