Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1800s.
It has an inverted break fronted moulded top above three concealed oak lined cushion drawers. Below these are four cupboard doors each having raised moulded edges and being flanked by the finest carved and scrolled pilasters. The sideboard as a whole stands on an inverted break fronted plinth. The central cupboard contains a single removable shelf, the cupboard to the left contains two oak lined drawers while the cupboard to the right contains a single removable shelf and a lower drawer with inset cellarette compartments. This stately piece is constructed from a quality of mahogany no longer available to today's craftsman due to its rarity. In years past this quality of sideboard retailed at around £8,000. Antique values, just like commodity prices, go up and down and this is the perfect time in that pricing cycle to purchase a piece such as this! It has aged to a lovely rich medium shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
