Carse Antiques has dated this piece to the 1700s.

The moulded caddy top with four matching veneers with a great knot in them and then cross banded in ash. The drawers with moulded edges, nice walnut veneers and then also cross banded in ash with original iron locks and correct replacement brass handles. The drawers lined in silver birch with the grain of the bottoms running from front to back. Nice feature is the mitre dovetails to the backs of the drawers.

The sides veneered in two pieces of lovely grained walnut veneer, mirrored in the centre. Nice shape base mould with shaped bracket feet also veneered in ash.
This chest turns up fantastic. Original dry condition inside throughout and original pine back. One or two small veneer repairs as you would expect and a couple of replacement blocks to the feet.

The most wonderful rich colour and patination. By a long way this is the nicest small early walnut veneered chest we have ever offered for sale
