Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1870s.
It has a rectangular top above the expected seven drawers, one for each day of the week. The drawers have the original turned handles and are securely closed with the swinging arm with key and working lock. The drawers are framed with beautifully carved corbels and the piece stands on shaped bracket feet. The chest still owns the original back boards and has aged to a warm medium shade of walnut with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
