Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1870s.
This stunning Victorian mahogany antique sideboard is of super quality and dates from around 1870.
The base consists of a central glazed display cabinet, the doors of which have moulded edges and a working lock. The interior contains two adjustable shelves ideal for displaying crockery. This cabinet is flanked by a pedestal on either side, each pedestal having a mahogany lined drawer with original turned handles above a beautifully figured cupboard door with moulded edges and key with working lock. The cupboard to the left contains two sliding trays designed to store table linen while the cupboard to the right has a single shelf above a deep cellaret drawer with the expected dividers and the original flush brass handle to the front. The whole piece stands on an inverted break fronted plain plinth. The glass like finish of the polish suits the rich medium shade of the mahogany perfectly making it look totally stunning and suitably grand. The wood has a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
