Description

Here we have a very fine example of a William and Mary Oak chest of drawers c1690. As you can see the chest has super colour and patina. This chest is cabinet maker made and of very high quality. There is a two plank top with exceptional colour and grain. The top is overslung with detailed moulding beneath. There are three drawers with geometric moulding to the fronts but no ordinary moulding this is stepped and ogee moulding. The drawers have three chunky dovetails as you would expect and are all Oak lined. There are beautiful original iron locks in place with original rose head nails. The drawers also retain their original drop handles and escutcheons. The sides of this chest are also paneled another sign of this chests quality and rarity. They are also quarter panelled and not just half panels which would be good enough. The chest is also fully paneled to the back and of course pegged mortice and tenon construction. The chest sits on stile feet with original squahed buns to the front an example of which can be found in Victor Chinnery Oak Furniture The British Tradition p440 (photo included) A super example which would be hard to surpass in lovely retail condition ready for your home.
