This Edwardian open-face pocket watch dates to circa 1920 in the style of a gentleman's library accessory. The piece comprises a gunmetal case, a white enamel dial, and a metallic top winding crown attached to a circular hanging ring. The dial displays black Roman numerals, black minute markers, blued steel spade hands, and a lower subsidiary seconds dial numbered in increments of ten from ten to sixty with the words "ADJUSTED" above and "SWISS MADE" flanking the bottom. The dial bears the inscription "THO RUSSELL & SON LIVERPOOL" below the XII numeral. Measuring 50 mm in width, the watch is suitable for display on a desk, shelf, or within a cabinet in a study or library setting today.

Open-face pocket watches feature a dial directly visible through a glass crystal without a hinged protective metal cover. Originating in the 18th century, they became standard for railway conductors and daily timekeeping due to their instant legibility.

These timepieces traditionally utilise vitreous enamel dials, blued steel hands, brass gearing, and protective cases constructed from sterling silver, gold plate, or durable nickel alloys.

Authenticity is identified through maker signatures on the dial or internal movement, specific serial numbers, Swiss or British hallmarks stamped inside the case back, and distinct movement finishing.

Pocket watches can be styled in a modern interior using dedicated glass pocket watch domes, brass display stands, or framed shadow boxes placed on desks, mantels, or bookshelves.

Preservation requires regular mechanical servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years, avoiding exposure to moisture or magnetic fields, and storing the item in a dry environment.
