Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 17TH CENTURY:
Grooved drawer sides for side runners: joinery before bottom runners came in.
Thick hand-adzed backboards: early timber preparation before modern sawmills.
Applied geometric cushion mouldings: decorative style of the late seventeenth century.
Panelled case sides pegged into heavy corner stiles: traditional joined framing.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cataloguer’s note

  • Period17th century
  • SizeH 132 cm (52 in) x W 114 cm (45 in) x D 64 cm (25 in)

This grand and imposing 17th-century Charles II chest of drawers stands 132 cm high, 114 cm wide, and 64 cm deep. The piece is built from oak with a rich, dark brown timber finish and good natural surface. Four long graduated drawers fill the front, each decorated with applied oak mouldings that visually split the drawer fronts into four distinct sections. Keyhole escutcheons sit centrally between the drawers, complemented by small brass drop knobs and geometric block feet at the base. Bold architectural mouldings run beneath the top surface, across the waist, and around the bottom frame. Today, this piece serves well as a statement storage unit in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, offering practical surface space on top and deep drawer storage below. The heavy timber construction and dark oak tone suit traditional interiors or contrast against neutral walls in a contemporary home. The replaced handles and feet maintain the classical aesthetic while keeping the furniture sturdy and functional for daily use.
