'Colour and Design' Teaching Board
Hand-Coloured Architectural Design Study

Beautifully hand-rendered using ink and watercolour, the sheet illustrates a series of decorative architectural borders and ornamental motifs inspired by Classical, Greek, Egyptian Revival, Arts & Crafts and emerging Art Deco design. The combination of precise draughtsmanship with carefully applied colour demonstrates the high standard of architectural education during the inter-war period.

The board bears original School of Architecture Department and College of Art – School of Architecture stamps, confirming its academic origin. Such surviving presentation sheets were working teaching or student examination pieces and were seldom intended for long-term display, making original examples increasingly difficult to find.

Today these decorative studies appeal to collectors of Art Deco, architectural history, design education and interior decoration, displaying equally well framed in both contemporary and period interiors.

Condition
Unframed. Age-related wear throughout, including surface marks, staining, foxing, edge wear, losses to the board at the corners and margins, together with evidence of previous mounting. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an integral part of the description.
