FAQs

Animalier sculpture refers to an artistic movement originating in the 19th century that focuses on realistic and detailed depictions of animals, particularly dogs, horses, and wild beasts.

Spelter, an alloy primarily composed of zinc, was widely used from the mid-19th to early 20th century as a cost-effective alternative to cast bronze for decorative figures and domestic ornaments.

Spelter is lighter in weight than bronze, displays a white or grey metallic core when scratched beneath the surface patina, and is typically softer and more prone to brittle fractures than bronze.

Metal animal sculptures can be positioned as focal points on a mantelpiece, stacked on books on a coffee table, or placed on a dark wood desk to add texture and historical contrast to contemporary schemes.

Maintain patinated spelter by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive pastes, or water, which can stripped or damage the delicate painted or bronzed surface finish.
