Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th-century Georgian settle is constructed from dark brown oak with a solid elm seat, finished with a cleaned and waxed surface. The high backrest has four flat panels set between a moulded top rail and mullions, accompanied by broad straight armrests with rounded ends on chamfered supports and sturdy square oak stiles tapering and chamfered at the front. Visible details include stretcher rails beneath the seat and holes in the lower rails that indicate earlier rope suspension. The piece measures 82.5 cm high, 143.5 cm wide, and 48.5 cm deep. Positioned in a rustic farmhouse setting, this bench provides seating along a hallway wall, beside a dining table, or in a living space. The heavy timber construction offers a stable platform for everyday use, while the dark wood tone complements traditional interior schemes.

An antique oak settle is a high-backed wooden bench with arms, originating in early European domestic interiors to protect sitters from draughts.

Eighteenth-century settles were built by joiners using solid native oak, utilising pegged mortise and tenon joinery, panelled backs, and heavy timber stretchers for structural durability.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-planed surfaces, hand-cut wooden dowels or pegs, natural shrinkage along the grain, and uneven wear consistent with age.

A dark oak settle functions effectively in a boot room, hallway, or dining space, contrasting against neutral plastered walls and paired with contemporary stone flooring or woven textiles.

Dark oak furniture should be kept away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture, with periodic application of clear beeswax polish to preserve the timber and finish.
