Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late 18th Century Georgian Period oak antique settle bench dates from ca. 1790 and measures 107 cm high, 184 cm wide, 66 cm deep. Constructed with visible wooden pegs, the dark brown timber exhibits a warm shade with a striking grain, good patina, and a waxed finish. The high back incorporates four raised fielded panels, complemented by simple shaped scrolled arms with turned upright supports above cabriole front legs and a shaped apron. A yellow cushioned seat with a quilted pattern and dark tufting rests within the frame. Practical for everyday seating, the bench is suited for placement in an entrance hall, a kitchen, or a traditional pub setting. The solid wooden frame provides a sturdy perch while highlighting traditional cabinet-making techniques from the late 1700s. Daily use adds to the historic character of the timber surfaces and period joinery details.

FAQs

A Georgian oak settle bench is a high-backed wooden seat originating in 18th-century Britain, traditionally designed with solid panelling to protect sitters from drafts in country homes and entryways.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid English oak utilizing mortise and tenon joinery, featuring hand-planed fielded panels, pegged construction, and shaped aprons.

Authentic 18th-century settles show hand-hewn tool marks, original wood pegging along the joints, irregular wear patterns on footrests, and natural shrinkage or oxidisation around timber joints.

A Georgian settle works effectively in a hallway, mudroom, or dining area paired with neutral textiles, contemporary lighting, or textured natural rugs to balance the dark timber.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources or damp environments.
