Description

A late 17th - early 18th century portrait of a musician / Composer. The painting depicts a very dark and moody portrait of a gentleman of status, with his head slightly turned to his right with his hand clasped onto a music sheet. The portrait is superbly painted and would benefit from some minor restoration and a good clean. I believe the stretcher to be original to the portait, though the painting has never been relined it appears to have been carefully removed from its original stretcher and put onto the existing one a long time ago.

Generally the portrait is in good condition, with some minor loose tares around the fixing edge of the painting, there are some blemishes around the edges and stretcher marks from whatever frame it was last in, but it remains unframed.

Very interesting portrait and it will clean well too.
