Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a whatnot is an open shelving unit designed to display ornaments, books, and curiosities. During the Regency period, these stands were typically crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood with slender turned supports and decorative finials.

Regency and Victorian whatnots were predominantly constructed from solid or veneered mahogany, rosewood, and walnut. Standard construction features include hand-turned spindles, dovetail-jointed base drawers, and brass castors or turned feet.

Authentic Regency pieces feature hand-turned upright supports, natural timber shrinkage across wide solid surfaces, original brass hardware, and hand-cut drawer dovetails. Genuine age presents through patination and historic surface wear to the original finish.

A vertical whatnot stand functions effectively in living rooms, hallways, or home offices to display curated collections of ceramics, framed pictures, or books. Its narrow footprint makes it suitable for maximizing vertical space in alcoves and compact corners.

Dust the timber regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, following the direction of the wood grain. Preserve the finish by applying a natural beeswax polish once or twice per year while keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat radiators.
