Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pigeon racing grew significantly in popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries across Great Britain and Europe, leading owners to commission portraits of prize-winning birds. These paintings, often created by folk artists, recorded specific race achievements, distances, and bird names directly onto the canvas.

Artists typically used oil paints applied to stretched canvas, wooden panels, or millboard. The finished works were commonly set into carved oak, mahogany, or molded stained pine frames, frequently featuring a thin gilded inner slip to highlight the image.

Authentic period works display natural varnish craquelure, age-appropriate surface patina, and historical hand-painted inscriptions in period typography. Inspection of the reverse reveals original stretcher bars or wooden panels displaying consistent timber oxidisation and age.

A folk art bird portrait functions well as part of a curated gallery wall or positioned above a dark wood console table. Pairing historical animal art with modern minimalist furniture or metallic accents creates an engaging contrast between heritage themes and contemporary design.

Position the painting away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent paint cracking or wood movement. Clean the surface gently using a soft, dry brush, avoiding water, chemical solvents, or abrasive materials.
