W.R. Harvey & Co. (Antiques) Ltd has dated this George II Walnut Lowboy to the 18th Century.
George II period figured and burr walnut lowboy, the rectangular canted top with a double crossbanded quarter veneered burr central panel and moulded edge, fitted with an assortment of five cock-beaded drawers with original pierced brass handle plates, over a shaped apron, raised on cabriole supports with pad feet. The piece has black and white line inlay to the top and all the drawers.

For the money he paid me on 11/1/70. It was sold on the understanding that it remains at The Lodge until my & Eileen’s death. 12/1/70”.

When this was made, such tables were “occasional tables” or “dressing tables”. The latter was to prevent ointments, powders and cosmetics from staining the valuable carpets.
