This eighteenth-century English Country House lowboy uses walnut and brass, rendered in warm brown. The piece takes the form of a table standing on four cabriole legs with pad feet, supporting a quarter-veneered top with chevron banding and a shaped apron. Three drawers sit beneath the top, fitted with brass bail handles and oak linings. Measuring 69 cm high by 77 cm wide and 46 cm deep, the table provides compact surface space. Practical placement includes positioning the lowboy beside the front door to hold keys and mail, or placing it within a hallway, bedroom, or living area as a side table. The traditional Queen Anne style suits heritage interiors and period properties, while the warm timber tones blend with classic furniture arrangements. The durable surface accommodates daily use for displaying small decorative items or holding everyday essentials.

Originating in late 17th-century England and popularised during the Queen Anne and Georgian periods, a lowboy is a small table with drawers designed primarily as a dressing table or side table for holding personal accessories.

Traditional lowboys were commonly built using solid walnut or oak frames, adorned with figured walnut veneers, crossbanding, feather-banding, dovetail drawer joints, and cast brass drop or bail handles.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original oak or pine drawer linings, secondary wood wear consistent with age, irregular hand-carved cabriole legs, and original brass hardware or clear fixings.

A lowboy serves effectively as a hall console table, a compact bedroom vanity, or an accent side table in a living room, contrasting structured antique woodwork with modern neutral textiles and simple lighting.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting. Clean surfaces using a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to maintain the natural patina.
