The Illustrated Book of Poultry by Lewis Wright, first published by Cassell, Petter and Galpin in 1873, (revised and expanded from 1880-1890), is widely considered the definitive 19th-century masterwork on domestic aviculture. The text combines a deeply practical, scientific manual on poultry husbandry with highly prized art. Over its 600 plus pages, it provides meticulous breed profiles, anatomy, and advice on housing and feeding along with stunningly vibrant colour plates drawn by renowned domestic bird artist Joseph W. Ludlow. It featured 50 full-page chromolithographed plates depicting prize-winning roosters and hens.
