1940s Gstp British Military Pocket Watch

1920 - 1940
Description

1940s GSTP Fontainemelon British military pocket watch.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement, calibre FEF 40N (Fontainemelon) with 15-jewels, 3 adjustments, which is working nicely.

The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel plated and it is in good condition. If viewed very closely, there is a little rubbing to the plate. The back of the watch has the General Service Time Piece initials, together with the crow’s foot mark, or pheon, indicating that it was issued to British military ground forces and personnel during WWII.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The dial is in beautiful condition with original hands (original radium paint has been removed).

The watch comes with a single leather albert.

The watch and albert come in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

GSTP stands for General Service Trade Pattern, a designation used by the British Armed Forces during the Second World War for standardized timepieces issued to military personnel.

These timepieces typically featured nickel or chrome-plated brass cases, durable glass or acrylic crystals, white or black enamel dials, and Swiss keyless lever mechanical movements.

Authentic pieces generally feature the GSTP engraving alongside a broad arrow mark and serial number stamped into the case back, alongside a Swiss-made mechanical movement.

A military pocket watch can be worn traditionally using a buttonhole T-bar fob, attached to a waistcoat or jacket pocket, or displayed on a dedicated glass dome watch stand.

Mechanical pocket watches require routine servicing by a horologist every three to five years, should be wound gently without forcing the crown, and kept away from water and strong magnetic fields.
