Taxidermy – Short Eared Owl by Hutchings of Aberystwyth.
Circa 1890.
Totally original retaining its original gilt slip and glass. The bird is in remarkable condition and the case appears to be un opened. The ebonised case is glazed just to the front (not the sides) and the gilt beading from my experience is an earlier type, suggesting this maybe by James Huthchings the father. As is often the norm with this famous firm, there is no trade label.
To the underside of the case is a pencil inscription, however it is very faint and I have been unable to read it. I think it’s the owl’s details, where taken, owner and date etc, but I cannot say for sure.
Fresh to the market, from a house clearance in North Wales.
53cm High x 36cm Wide.
