This remarkable bed showcases the wonderful warmth and character that only genuine olive wood can provide, with a beautifully aged patina that has developed over generations, highlighting the natural grain and rich golden honey tones of the timber.
The impressive headboard is a masterpiece of traditional craftsmanship, standing 165 cm high and adorned with intricate hand-carved detailing throughout. At its centre sits an elaborate crest surrounded by finely carved scrollwork and decorative motifs, while each corner is crowned with elegant ornate urn finials, adding both height and architectural presence.
The sweeping footboard, standing 119 cm high, is equally striking. Its graceful curved profile is enhanced by beautifully carved floral and foliate decoration, culminating in a magnificent central panel featuring a boldly carved lion's head, framed within an elaborate carved surround. The lion's head provides a wonderful focal point, symbolising strength and nobility, while the surrounding craftsmanship demonstrates the exceptional quality of this period piece.
Each substantial bed post is finished with decorative turned detailing and topped with matching carved finials, creating a wonderfully balanced and imposing appearance. The deep carved mouldings along the lower rails further enhance the bed's impressive scale and visual impact.
The olive wood itself is simply beautiful, displaying a rich, mellow patina with striking natural figuring and grain patterns that have matured over many decades. The wood has been carefully preserved, giving the bed warmth, depth and character that cannot be replicated in modern furniture.
The bed has been thoughtfully adapted to accommodate a modern UK Super King mattress, with the side rails extended to achieve the correct internal length of 200 cm, making it both practical and ready for everyday use while retaining its original period charm.
