Oil on Canvas "Diving Spitfire" Dion Pears (1929-85)

Description

This is a large framed oil of a diving Mark IX Spitfire FY-F flown by Squadron Leader Hugo Armstrong RAAF DFC&Bar, he was the commanding officer of 611 Squadron (County of Lancaster).

He was shot down over Boulogne on 5th February 1943.

Painted by Dion Pears, born in Richmond, Surrey in 1929, grandson of the famed marine artist Charles Pears, and known for his atmospheric paintings of aircraft, racing cars and seascapes.

In excellent condition.
