Antique Georgian Gaudy Welsh Bethesda Pattern Fenton Jug

£135    $183    €159
A lovely Early 19th Century Antique Georgian Gaudy Welsh Ironstone Jug of panelled octagonal form, the shape, known as ''Fenton'' first introduced by G.M. & C.J. Mason, circa 1815. Decorated here in ''Bethesda'' pattern in an Imari palette of iron red and cobalt blue, the attractive ''Dragon Loop'' handle modelled as a serpent''s tail. The underside impress marked ''IRONSTONE CHINA'', which would suggest an early date ~ Masons introduced their Patent Ironstone China in 1813, but, according to Geoffrey Godden, { Mason''s China and the Ironstone Wares ~ A.C.C. Woodbridge 1980 }, within a few years, the description ''Ironstone China'' was taken up by other manufacturers, thus, while one might hazard a guess, it is not possible to identify the Maker of this piece with certainty.

Height ~ 12.00 cm. / 4.72 inches ~ Width ~ 8.50 cm. / 3.35 inches ~ Depth to include handle ~ 12.00 cm. / 4.72 inches ~ Year ~ Circa 1825
