Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mezzotint is an intaglio printmaking technique developed in the 17th century that allows for tone creation without line hatching. Artists use a serrated metal tool called a rocker to pit a copper plate, scraping and burnishing areas to create smooth tonal gradations from deep blacks to light highlights.

Traditional mezzotints were executed on copper plates using specialized steel hand tools, inked with oil-based pigments, and pressed onto heavy cotton rag paper. Multi-colour examples were either inked a la poupee directly onto the plate or finished with hand-applied watercolour glazes.

Authentic mezzotints feature a distinct indented platemark around the image margin, subtle soft tonal transitions rather than modern dot-matrix pixels, and often include hand-written pencil signatures from the engraver in the lower margin on artist proof impressions.

Classical portrait prints can be incorporated into contemporary spaces by hanging them as anchor pieces within gallery walls or mounting them above dark wood sideboards. Combining traditional framed art with clean-lined modern furniture creates a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Display paper prints away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent foxing and colour fading. Ensure the frame utilizes acid-free backing materials and UV-protective glass, leaving a air gap between the paper surface and the glazing.
