A 19th Century Plum Pudding Mahogany Chest Of Drawers In The Manner Of Gillows, C.1835

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Jeckyll & Co

This is a super quality chest of drawers. The timber is first rate, as is the cabinet making, it is also something of an enigma. There are lovely details such as the amphora-shaped feet, a classical reference and one popular during the Regency period and also related to documented examples made by Gillows. The handles are original and also Gillows design, but the drawer linings are made of ash, which is often used in Scottish cabinet making. Whatever its specific origins, it''s a very handsome chest!

Good, well presented condition with some typical minor wear commensurate with age and use. The drawers run well and the chest frame is solid and dependable. In addition the front left handle has been re-glued and there is some fine surface scratching to the top, see images.
