Gents 1948 Elgin Wrist Watch

Gents 1948 Elgin wrist watch.

The watch has a grade 554 hand-winding movement which is working nicely. A good quality movement with 15 jewels, four adjustments. The movement is fully signed and the serial number dates it back to 1948.

The watch measures 25.5mm wide excluding the winding crown, and 30mm high excluding the lugs. The case is gold filled and was made by the American watch case maker Schwab & Wuischpard. It is signed inside the stainless steel case back with their name, and it is also stamped, ‘cased and time by Elgin National Watch Co’. The case is in good condition, light marking to the back but nothing too serious at all.

The glass lens has a 4mm scratch, and a couple of other smaller marks.

The signed dial is in its original finish with original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a vintage presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
