Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency portraiture, dating from the early nineteenth century, typically features realistic depictions of individuals against dark or muted backgrounds. Subjects are often shown in formal period dress, such as high-collared coats and white cravats, reflecting the understated elegance of the era.

Paintings from this era were primarily executed using oil paints ground from natural pigments mixed with linseed oil, applied to hand-stretched linen or cotton canvas. Frames were typically constructed from carved timber coated in plaster or gesso and finished with hand-applied gold leaf.

Authentic period portraits display natural age-related craquelure across the paint surface, original timber stretcher bars behind the canvas, and signs of hand craftsmanship on the gilded frame. Inspection under ultraviolet light can also reveal historical restoration or retouching.

An antique portrait can serve as a focal point above a fireplace mantelpiece or within a curated gallery wall alongside contemporary line drawings. Pairing historical artwork with clean-lined modern furniture creates an intriguing visual contrast.

Keep oil paintings away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent cracking and canvas warp. Clean gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to remove surface dust, avoiding water or chemical cleaners.
