Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of long cherry benches dates from the 1900 period in a rustic country style, constructed from warm brown cherry with a natural timber finish. Each bench consists of a long, narrow single plank top resting on angled trestle legs with horizontal stretcher bars near the floor. Visible details include exposed wooden grain patterns across the plank surface and sturdy pegged joinery securing the legs. Measuring 45 cm high, 301 cm wide and 37 cm deep, these substantial pieces offer an elongated seating solution for a large hallway, a long dining table arrangement, or as a striking architectural feature against a spacious living room wall.

FAQs

Traditional trestle benches originated in early modern Europe as functional seating, constructed with long plank tops supported by trestle legs or A-frames for stability and ease of movement.

Country benches were typically crafted from durable hardwoods such as cherry, oak, or chestnut, often featuring pegged joinery, exposed tenons, and solid plank tops.

Authentic antique benches exhibit signs of natural wear, hand-planed surface textures, historical repair marks, and traditional joinery techniques rather than modern mechanical fasteners.

Long wooden benches can be styled alongside a large dining table, placed in a wide hallway or entryway, or positioned at the foot of a bed to add natural timber tones and structural character.

Maintain antique timber benches by dusting with a soft cloth, keeping them away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, and applying natural beeswax polish periodically.
