Nineteenth-century floral still life works typically emphasise realistic detail, naturalistic lighting, and rich botanical arrangements, often influenced by Dutch Golden Age traditions combined with contemporary academic realism.

Artists of this era predominantly used oil paints applied to woven linen canvas, stretched over wooden frames, and housed in hand-carved, gilded wooden frames adorned with gesso and plaster ornamentation.

Authenticity is assessed through examining the canvas weave, the presence of natural craquelure in the oil paint layer, period-appropriate stretcher bars, and the construction techniques of the accompanying frame.

Pairing classical oil paintings with contemporary furnishings creates a sophisticated contrast, allowing the rich textures of the gilt frame and muted colour palette to anchor minimalist or neutral spaces.

Paintings should be kept away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels, and cleaning should be restricted to dust removal with a soft brush by a professional conservator.
