The George III style spans the reign of King George III from 1760 to 1820, characterised by classical proportions, refined cabinet-making techniques, and a transition from heavy mahogany designs to lighter, more neoclassical forms influenced by designers like Thomas Chippendale and George Hepplewhite.

Georgian chests were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or oak timbers, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, deal or oak secondary woods for drawer linings, and cast brass swan-neck or loop handles.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetailing, natural timber shrinkage and oxidisation, handmade iron or brass fixings, uneven hand-planed board surfaces, and traditional tongue-and-groove drawer bottoms.

An antique chest of drawers anchors a contemporary room by introducing warmth and tactile history; pair it with minimalist contemporary lighting or abstract art to create a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
