Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

FAQs

The Meiji period spans from 1868 to 1912, characterised by the opening of Japan to Western trade, which led to a surge in production of high-quality decorative arts, including intricate bronze metalwork destined for export markets.

Japanese metalworkers primarily used the lost-wax casting method, followed by meticulous hand-chasing, patination using traditional chemical compounds, and often incorporating signature panels or artist marks.

Bronze should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical polishes, abrasives, or water, as these can strip the original historical patina and damage the metal surface.

These sculptural objects serve as focal points on surfaces like sideboards, desks, or mantelpieces, adding textural contrast, historical depth, and a sense of curated elegance to contemporary spaces.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit deep, stable patination, fine hand-carved detail in the fur and features, and frequently feature maker signatures or foundry marks either cast into the base or applied as a separate plaque.
