Description

A pair of 18th century carved oak figures identified as the Virgin Mary and St John the Evangelist, most likely former flanking figures from a crucifixion composition. Each figure is shown standing, draped in long robes.

Rectangular recesses to the reverse indicate these were probably originally secured into an architectural framework, both stand on simple square plinth bases. The oak has acquired an even patina and exhibits age-appropriate surface wear and small historic losses.
