Original and Small Charles II Oak Chest of Drawers C. 1670

17th century
Description

A really good 17th century solid oak and Elm chest of four long graduated drawers, very small and well proportioned, with a fabulous colour and rich natural patination.

Lovely twin boarded oversailing top and geometric mouldings to the drawers. The brass handles appear original with snaped fixings and softened edges from centuries of use.

The chamfered and fielded panels to the sides are well framed and the back comprises two very large chamfered and hand azed boards.

The drawers with their original oak linings with substantial dovetailed joints, nailed up bottoms and rebated runners – all open and close smoothly, all are sturdy and solid and capable of holding a large load. Two original steel locks are present two are not.

Original peg joints and original feet which extend naturally from the stiles and with only minor marks, dings and a few very small losses and repairs consistent with the chest’s great age and generations of careful use.

Simply beautiful and original and made by skilled hands in around 1670

A really lovely small example.

Dimensions are:

35 inches high, 36 inches wide, 22 inches deep.

Usable heights in each drawer are 3.75 inches, 5 inches, 6 inches and 7 inches.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
