Early Heals of London Antique Oak Dresser

19th century
Description

Early Heals of London Antique Oak Dresser

Dating from around 1890, this is an early piece of Heals solid antique oak furniture, a large scale dresser that splits into three sections, the architectural lift off cornice, the open rack with panelled door cupboards to each side, and then the dresser base that stands on a stretchered base with turned legs and having two drawers over two cupboards. In superb condition throughout, stamped twice with the makers label and by the maker into a drawer. Complete with all the original iron work and all a very good original colour. Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Arts and Crafts movement emphasised traditional craftsmanship, honest construction methods, and minimal artificial ornamentation. Furniture from this era often highlights natural wood grain, exposed joinery, and hand-forged metal fittings.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised solid oak, often quarter-sawn to reveal ray flea grain patterns, alongside wrought iron or brass hardware for hinges and handles.

Authentic Heal & Son items often feature a small inset ivory or metal makers disc, unvarnished solid oak construction, and distinctively simple Arts and Crafts structural detailing.

Positioning an antique oak dresser against neutral modern walls creates visual balance, whilst styling the shelves with minimal ceramic or glassware prevents a cluttered appearance.

Apply high-grade beeswax polish along the grain twice yearly, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping.
