Classic French antique (late 19thC) bronze statue, ''Captivity'', by Jean Louis Gregoire (1840-1890). A patinated bronze sculpture of a young boy trimming the wings of a dove. Beautifully modelled and cast. Signed on the base ‘Gregoire’. 66cm high x 19cm wide x 24cm deep, weight 15.4kg.
Superb condition and patina.
Jean-Louis Gregoire was a Parisian sculptor working in the 19th Century. He trained under the celebrated sculptor Jean Jules Salmson at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and his work was first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1867. Gregoire is particularly noted for his bronze and marble sculptures and figures.
